Why Critical Thinking Matters in Everyday Life

Critical thinking helps us understand information better, make considered decisions and spot manipulation in the media and in everyday communication.

Every day we make hundreds of decisions – what to buy, what to believe, whom to listen to. Most of them we make automatically. Critical thinking does not mean analysing every little thing, but recognising the moments when it pays to slow down.

When to slow down

  • when money, health or relationships are at stake,
  • when you feel a strong emotion,
  • when someone is pushing you into a quick decision ("offer ends today").

A small habit with a big effect

Before you share or decide something, ask yourself: "How would I know if I were wrong?" The question alone opens up room for another explanation.
